Our Strategy 2022-2030

Building on our momentum for the future of World Scouting

In 2022 the Board of the Foundation adopted an ambitious new Strategy 2022–2030. Building on the strong foundations of its global network, a strengthened partnership with the World Organisation of the Scout Movement (WOSM) and passionate supporters of Scouting worldwide, we set in motion a new ambitious vision.

The work to develop a new Strategy was piloted by our Strategy Task Force – volunteers and staff from the Foundation, working alongside representatives of the World Organization of the Scout Movement and reporting regularly to the Foundation’s Executive Committee and Board. Our work was additionally informed by extensive research and analysis undertaken in partnership with CCS Fundraising, made possible thanks to generous support of BP Fellows.

Our Vision

By 2030, the World Scout Foundation will have raised an additional USD 100 million for World Scouting to contribute to the education and development over over 100 million young, active citizens who will drive positive change in their communities worldwide.

We will achieve this by leveraging our experience and innovative approaches, in line with our values, to expand and engage a growing network of supporters.

Our Strategy in Action

Following the adoption of our new Strategy in April 2022, Board Members, volunteers, staff and partners took the first steps to bringing our vision to life. Thanks to clearly defined goals and performance indicators to measure our progress along the way, we are pleased to share highlights of the first stages of implementation.

Strengthened relationship with WOSM

The Foundation and World Organization of the Scout Movement strengthened their cooperation, kicking-off the annual joint staff meeting by developing strategic priorities for funding in the new strategy period.

Board Committee Appointments

The Board welcomed four BP Fellows into its standing Committees to strengthen governance, investment, audit and oversight, and 18 volunteers into the three Fundraising Committees to help implement the Strategy.

Institutional Fundraising Committee

Developed an Ethical Partnership Agreement and began cultivating relationships with two new institutional partners.

High Value Donor Fundraising Committee

Secured three new Regal Circle Donors (contributions of USD 1 million) in 2022.

Global Networks Fundraising Committee

Developed a Chapter Framework, supported the first digital Annual Appeal and began work on a Cultivation Event Framework for personal fundraising events.

Annual Appeal 2022

The Secretariat launched the first digital annual appeal aligned to the strategy and its goal of lifelong giving in support of World Scouting. Our appeal raised over USD 700,000.

Ukraine Emergency Response

We worked with WOSM to raise funds to support Scout humanitarian action in Ukraine and surrounding countries. Together with BP Fellows, Scouts and supporters worldwide, we raised over USD 700,000.

Messaging Platform

Portuguese Scouts participate in JOTA-JOTI 2021

We developed a messaging platform including a clear case for support to bolster communications for the Foundation’s work in support of World Scouting.

“We welcome the work to develop an ambitious World Scout Foundation strategy, diversify fundraising efforts, and reshape operations to deliver even more resources to World Scouting. We appreciate the inclusive process to develop the strategy and the commitment by the Foundation to innovate and connect with more supporters worldwide.”

Andy Chapman, Chairperson, World Scout Committee

“We are excited to take the next steps together and build on the Foundation’s deep commitment to develop and strengthen the impact of Scouting worldwide.”

Mark Knippenberg, CEO, World Scout Foundation

“Fundraising is a means to achieve (more) social impact, not the end result. We are not raising money for Scouting; we are raising money to enable Scouting to do more for the world. By doing more, Scouting gets stronger.”

Lars Kolind, Board Member, World Scout Foundation

“We are fully committed to working in partnership with the Foundation to implement the strategy and advance the impact of World Scouting. To help achieve the strategy’s objectives, we look forward to working closely to attain greater efficiency based on stronger alignment to reach the Scout Movement’s aspirations for Vision 2023 and beyond.”

Ahmad Alhendawi, WOSM Secretary General
